We are going to desperately need a "health freedom" amendment to the constitution. Unless it's specifically and absolutely clarified that way, and that emergency powers cannot supersede it, we'll just have more excuses to violate our unalienable rights.

Democracy, as they say, can be two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner. So it's not just the corruption of the process brought about by the power of vested interests etc, its weakness - and potential for majority tyranny - is inherent. So, as you say, the bulwark lies in unalienable individual rights. However, as Justice Scalia often noted, rights written in a Constitution are still at risk of state infringement. His view was that it was the system of checks and balances between the 3 branches that made the USA special rather than its Constitution per se. Too bad he's not alive to opine on the situation where 2 of those branches (as well as the 4th estate) are captured & controlled by corrupt scoundrels & the 3rd is hanging in the balance.
It's finally dawning on me that "protect democracy" means "power to the collective". It's democratic authoritarianism. If more than 50% of the voters want authoritative universal collectivism, individualists are screwed. The constitution is not enough to prevent it.

There is no democracy when in the economy and businesses it's not one person one vote, but one dollar one vote which benefits the intellectually inbred wealthy classes.
Every form of government can be hopelessly corrupted by greedy dishonest men. Once the numbers of corrupted people reach a tipping point where each is bound and determined to support the other, dishonesty and corruption become the norm, the nefarious actors are well protected from the law (e.g. Hillary), and government officials can ignore the law with impunity. Sadly, we will not be able to fix this system by working within the system; we will never find non-psychopathic candidates to elect in place of the psychopaths who are already there.
Without a Bill of Rights, is it any surprise Australia was one of the first to fall? And as you said, cheered on by the masses. The tyranny of crowds is quite evident here.
Great article, and it highlights that even direct democracy like in Switzerland is fraught. Just because 51% of people think something is good does not make that thing good. Combining low information voters with mandatory voting as we have here is a recipe for vacuous campaigning/policies. The current government never got out of campaigning mode, from ~8 years ago, just one slogan after another, one empty press release after another. They seem to have forgotten that good policy takes more than a press release.
Somehow we've lost the collective wisdom of previous generations. Led by charlatans, we have mishandled the past two years on a scale that boggles the mind, perpetuating human suffering on a genocidal scale. I cannot think of a single institution that has held up well in this objectively mild challenge.
Once the rubble has cooled and the black hats vanquished, our first priority needs to be a Bill of Rights.
“Democracy” is nothing more than the tyranny of the majority - which is exactly why the U.S. was laid down as a Constitutional Republic based upon inalienable rights - rights that were immune to “democracy”.
This assault on the idea of liberty has been going on for a long time. I remember 1989, Tiananmen Square, the protesters holding signs saying "we want liberty" and Rather/Brokaw/Jennings all reporting that the signs said "we want democracy". Liberty is permanently inconvenient for the ruling class while democracy offers a mechanism for control.
The MSM propaganda has kept so many at the level of idiot while thinking they are well informed. It has become an Idiotocracy. A lack of rational thinking and a lack of a consistent ethic.
What we see occurring in blue states vs red states is our democratic republic struggling to survive. We have seen many people moving with their feet to Florida, Texas, Tennessee and other states that value our Bill of Rights. We have a ruling elite that will cling to power at all costs. At the very minimum, we need Term Limits for all elected offices at the national level who are forbidden from any involvement in the stock markets. It won’t fix everything, but it is a place to start.
It's quite simple really: Do Not Comply. If you do not comply, they have no power. The solution must be cultural and down to the individual to have an ounce of courage, not to demand more answers from the State.
There is no democracy for a long time, people just started to notice now..The entire Plandemic response is Globally coordinated to begin a total destruction of the societies to usher in a New Order of The Ages, it took years to plot, and every step of the way they told us the truth.
May be it's time to start listening to the representatives of the global elites when they tell the truth about their intentions right in our faces..

Very good point about democracy vs individual rights. It is no surprise that the Uniparty lifts high the concept of democracy yet consistently moves to weaken the US Constitution (the longest lived framework of government in the history of the world). A return to the constitution will be therapeutic to the US and its allies.

Our representative republic was designed to be better with built in checks and balances. But the constant attack on our constitutionin the form of accumulation of power by the central government, elevation of our judicial branch as the “last word” on constitutionality, and abrogation of responsibilities from the legislative branch to the executive branch has made our system into the powerful post-constitutional corrupt machine it is today. This is not a failure of our system of government (as set up); it is a failure of the people over the years to protect what was given to them.
